Welcome to Swords of Speirling. We are an original fantasy site, set in a fictional world divided into seven kingdoms. We are set in the Medieval-ish/Renaissance period of this world. We have 20+ playable races available, we have no word count, and we are rated mature. Our application process is simple and to-the-point and we are LGBTQ+ friendly, straight-/cisgendered-ally friendly, and ALL racial identities-friendly. We do believe in some order, but we don't take ourselves all that seriously. Jerks need not apply. It is currently WINTER.

We are currently searching for royal family members and military characters, particularly knights.

  • magical powers: none specific to the species, but many individuals practice magic, as it comes naturally to them. Most are born with magical powers and many are self-healing

  • how long the species has existed: 120,000 years

  • location: they reside throughout mostly in Teumnach, but they may be found throughout Speirling.

  • notes: Pronounced "shee"

  • It is very difficult to kill a full-blooded sidhe, as they possess the same powers that the gods bestowed upon them when their race was created.
  • They are highly intelligent, physically strong, and quick of both body and mind.
  • They are beautiful, sometimes with a soft glow around them and they are widely considered to be next to godliness.
  • They often outlive everyone else.
WEAKNESSES:
  • They are a proud species and are usually close-minded and haughty.
  • Although they are long-lived, their species is dying out, due to to intermarriage and the world changing.
  • Their pride is their biggest downfall.

HUMANS

  • definition: a mortal humanoid

  • life expectancy: 80 years

  • classification: mortal

  • magical powers: none specific to the species. About 20% of humans practice magic through study or natural ability

  • how long the species has existed: 100,000 years

  • location: Sgaithte is the last part of their traditional ancestral home, but they reside throughout Speirling
STRENGTHS:
  • They are resilient as a species, have a high sex drive, and will stop at nothing to survive.
  • They're masters of adapting to new circumstances and shaping their environment to suit them.
  • They are motivated by money, power, and fame.
  • They are the most populous species in Speirling, with elves and hybrids coming in at a close second.
WEAKNESSES:
  • They are physically fragile, compared to the fae.
  • They are easily corruptible
  • They are the favorite food of many different creatures in Speirling.
  • They are one of the species with the shortest lifespan.
PHYSICAL TRAITS:
  • They are shorter than the fae (average height is between 5'4" and 6'0").
  • They have denser bodies, and round ears.
BRIEF HISTORY:
  • The Goddess of Rain wept to see her creations slaughtering each other and the world was covered in a great flood from her tears.
  • The demons returned to the Underworld, but the sidhe panicked, trying to find cover. The gods scrambled to save them, but they could only save half of them. The rest, not finding refuge with their creators, turned to the God of Darkness, who harbored them in the Underworld.
  • The storm passed, the flood subsided, and the sidhe were able to return from the heavens and continue their immortal lives.
  • The (former) sidhe who had sought refuge in the Underworld paid a price. The God of Darkness promised them that they could return to their homes on Earth for the present, but they would one day return to live with him.
  • When these sidhe emerged, they found that their immortality and many of their powers were gone. Thus emerged the first humans. To this day, they must return to live with the God of Darkness in the Underworld when they die.

VAMPIRES

  • definition: humanoids whose bodies are suspended in a state of living death

  • life expectancy: immortal. Once bitten, their bodies will not age

  • classification: undead

  • magical powers: none specific to the species

  • how long the species has existed: 80,000 years

  • location: vampires are found throughout Speirling, but there is a concentrated population in Foirfich.
STRENGTHS:
  • Increased strength and night vision.

  • They have two semi-retractable fangs that serve as weapons.

  • They must consume the blood of a living or recently deceased intelligent being (playable species) in order to survive. While they do not require food, water, or sleep, they have retained the ability to consume all three and it often plays a role in their overall health.

  • Vampires cannot be frozen to death although their bodies may be frozen stiff in extreme situations. They are widely feared as a species.
WEAKNESSES:
  • If exposed to direct sunlight for more than one hundred twenty (120) seconds, a vampire will turn to dust.

  • They have a severe reaction to garlic.

  • The strength of a vampire's reflection depends on their age, so the older the vampire, the fainter the reflection, although some vampires may work magically or purchase spells to maintain their reflections.

  • It is possible to wound a vampire with any weapon, but the wound will heal within minutes -- the only way to kill them is to thrust a wooden stake their heart. If the wooden stake is plunged through another body part, it won't kill them, but it will severely wound them, even to the point of paralyzing the affected body part.

  • Vampires need to drink blood regularly, and they will become severely weakened after a fortnight (2 weeks) without it. The hungrier they get, the more likely their bloodlust is to take over and they may turn on their family or friends in order to get the blood they need, even if it is against their will.

  • Excitement (rage, sexual, euphoria, etc) may heighten bloodlust and take it out of the vampire's control, depending on their level of hunger.
PHYSICAL TRAITS:
  • Vampires are humanoids who have very little blood in their systems, causing them to have deathly-pale complexions.

  • They have fangs for teeth.

  • They'd better have a damn good reason for sparkling in the sunlight.
BRIEF HISTORY:
  • The God of Blood approached a young sidhe count from behind a tree and bit him in the neck, taking him by surprise and injecting his venom into the jugular vein.

  • The count appeared to die from the bite, but even as The Goddess of Death showed up to lead him to the Underworld, she turned around.

  • Three days later, the count sat up in his coffin, alive, even though his body was frozen cold with death. He was filled with a hunger that could only be satisfied by one thing: the blood of a human or fae,

  • He preyed on the maiden when she came to pay her respects. He bit her as he had been bitten and thus the vampire species began.

  • Vampires are “born” by biting into the flesh of their victim and injecting poison into their bloodstream. If all of the victim’s blood is sucked out, then the victim will die, but if enough blood remains in the victim’s body, then he or she will undergo the painful process of becoming a vampire, which can last from several hours to several weeks. Sometimes, victims are presumed dead and buried before they rise from the grave as vampires.

WEREWOLVES

  • definition: a humanoid (born or bitten) who has the ability to transform into a large wolf

  • life expectancy: 80 years

  • classification: mortal

  • magical powers: none specific to the species

  • how long the species has existed: 80,000 years

  • location: they reside throughout Speiring.

  • notes: "Born-werewolf" refers to an individual who was born to two werewolf parents. "Bitten-werewolf" refers to an individual who was born to parents of a different species and was bitten and turned by another werewolf.
STRENGTHS:
  • They have increased smell and hearing.
  • They are usually physically strong and athletic in both forms and heal quickly.
  • Born-Werewolves retain consciousness during their full moon transformation and have the ability to shift at will.
  • Bitten-Werewolves may eventually learn to retain control during their forced full moon transformation.
WEAKNESSES:
  • Werewolves may be wounded with any type of weapon, but they will only die when silver gets in their bloodstream.
  • Wolfsbane may weaken, stop, or even kill them.
  • All werewolves (born and bitten) transform on the night of the full moon. This is compulsatory.
  • Most bitten-werewolves are forced into painful transformation on the night of every full moon, but they will lose all sense of self and run wild and bloodthirsty. They have been known to even murder their own kin.
PHYSICAL TRAITS:
  • Werewolves look like humans in their humanoid form, although they may possess wolfish characteristics, such as more body hair or a howling laugh.
  • There are two types of werewolves found in Speirling. The Speirling Werewolf looks much like Gray Wolf/Timber Wolf, much, much larger. Ianor Werewolves evolved in a hot, dry climate, are bipedal and stand relatively upright.

BRIEF HISTORY:
  • Speirling Werewolves: The God of Chaos summoned a wild wolf (the non-talking kind), which he bit, injecting it with his venom into its jugular vein. Then, he set the infected wolf upon the humans at a picnic. Thus, the first werewolves were born that night when the full moon rose.
  • Ianor Werewolves: The Ianor Werewolf is native to the foreign land of Ianor, and they became prominent in Speirling after an Ianor Werewolf made her way to Speirling on a trading ship that came through Muireach. She made her home in Speirling, mated with a Speirling Werewolf and infected many others, helping her kind to multiply in Speirling.
