It had taken the course of several weeks for Rose to persuade her parents to allow her to leave the Castle Trilanor and travel to Teumnach in order to attend the Festival of Ostara. They were still concerned for her safety, which was only natural, so they had insisted that while she was here in the fae kingdom, that she stay with the royal Gwydion family for the time.

It seemed that despite the alliance falling out between the kingdoms during the Hunt finale, due to prince Arhodrian not naming Gaothaidh for second place, the rules of hospitality were still at play. The Queen Consort had been most welcoming to the youngest princess of the Trilanor bloodline, and the eldest prince was quite the charmer indeed. Just like the reputation that preceded him suggested. Even the princess Rhiannon, whom was no longer the Crown Princess (having abdicated from the title and elevating her brother), had ventured from the foreign little village where she was residing now in order to greet Rose herself.

Truthfully, with such hospitality, Rose was surprised that her father and mother disliked the Gwydion royals. They were such decent people. But then again, Rose was an innocent of the world, more or less. The death of her siblings had shattered her view of the world... and the people in it.

Still, the King and Queen Consort of Gaothaidh had allowed their daughter to attend the festival, and she couldn't be happier for their trust. The Gwydion's promise that no harm would come to her must have counted for something.

The festival seemed like a world full of bright colours. Ribbons hung from buildings and street lamps, chasing off in all directions. She now understood that this was part of a game where you could follow a ribbon to a prize. And the fountain with the rabbit holding the egg was a mystery to be sure. But Rose wasn't interest in either of these features just yet, she ran straight for the may pole, the flower crown that adorned her head bouncing with every stride.

Taking up a brightly coloured ribbon, Rose danced with several of the local village girls, turning and weaving the ribbons around the pole. As she danced, the part siren couldn't help herself but sing. It was a song without words, but vocal nodes. Still, it created a song that filled not only herself, but the other girls with joy. Once they were finished dancing around the may pole and let go of their ribbons that it could be unwound for others to have a god, Rose was breathing hard, but she felt exhilarated.

She had not been this carefree in such a long time.

An old gentleman approached her at that point. Or at least, he appeared older than her. That was the hard thing about the fae - it was impossible to judge their age. Rose herself was in her forties, but appeared to be as youthful as a twenty year old.
"You have a very lovely voice", he complimented, smiling in amongst his bushy beard.
"Thankyou", Rose responded, pushing stray hairs behind one pointed ear. She still wasn't used to compliments about her voice.
"I was actually going to ask, with such a voice, if you wouldn't mind singing with myself and some other bards. We would greatly appreciate it".
Rose smiled and nodded. She had never sung in front of a crowd before... but there was always a first for everything.

Rose followed the man towards the place where several of the bards had set up and were already starting to play.
"What should I sing?" she asked. She had never done this sort of thing before.
"Anything you like!" one of the bards, a younger one, answered happily, smiling at her. Rose thought for a moment, listening to their tune before a song found it's way to her lips.

"These scars long have yearned for your tender caress
To bind our fortunes, damn what the stars own
Rend my heart open, then your love profess
A winding, weaving fate to which we both atone".

It was perhaps, a mite somber, but the bards made no exception. They only smiled amongst themselves and made a slight change to their music to suit her song even more.

"You flee my dream come the morning
Your scent - berries tart, lilac sweet
To dream of raven locks entwisted, stormy
Of violet eyes, glistening as you weep".

The princess had not sat down once since the moment she had stepped through the doors of the Great Library. No, her mind was too preoccupied with research for her to think about something as trivial as 'sitting down'.

Youngest of the Trilanor bloodline, and therefore the youngest member of the royal family, Rose was something of an oddity amongst her family. She possessed a childlike innocence that had carried on, even into her forties. In part, it was due to her being so sheltered; in other ways it was because Rose had never lost her sense of wonder that so many people lost when they grew up. The young princess was a curious soul that knew there was always more things to learn.

She was dressed fairly plainly, without a hint of jewellery or excessive finery about her. The only thing that could hint at her high born status was the gold thread that was stitched into the cream fabric of her gown. Not a soul would guess that she was royalty at a glance unless they needed to speak with her about something. Rose preferred it this way.

Carrying a book under one arm, the young princess was busy reading another, scanning the words printed on the pages as she walked down the aisle of the library, occasionally lifting her gaze to read a title imprinted on a cover of a book that sat on the shelves. It was one such moment where she stopped, tucking her open book under her arm, she extracted the book from the shelf, flicked it open and began to read. After a few minutes Rose sighed heavily, replacing the book on the shelf and pulling the book she had been reading back out from under her arm.
“Not this one either...” Rose mumbled to herself, lifting the hand that carried the second book to turn the page back to the one that had a picture printed on it. She was certain she had seen that picture before. Or rather, the castle that sat in the background.

Granted, the chances of finding reference of a castle that featured in only one artists rendering that was associated with an old romantic folk-tale was probably slim at best; but Rose was determined to try. Turning the page back to where she had been in the novel, Rose continued on her way. In her distraction, she decided to try the next aisle, turning the corner at the end of the shelf. Reading and walking was really not the best combination as Rose inadvertently walked into someone.

The princess toppled backwards, landing on her backside, and her books flew from her grasp.
“Goodness, I'm so sorry!” the princess gushed, not noticing whom she had bumped into as she scrambled to her feet, clutching one book tightly. The one that had been tucked under her arm. Rose looked around her for the other book – the romance tale. Where had it gone?

There were two things in this world that the young princess loved more than her family. Her beloved horse, Aumia, and singing. Rose adored singing, her heart always felt so free when she allowed her voice to soar in musical sound. But she never allowed herself to sing around the palace...except in the privacy of her room. Her eldest brother, Tariq, aspired to be a bard... and yet he couldn't sing a single note that didn't sound like nails on a chalkboard. That wasn't to say that he couldn't write music, he just couldn't sing them. Rose tried to encourage him, in all aspects of his dreams as a bard, but he only seemed to throw her good intentions back in her face.

Rose loved all her family (even Rancourt, despite his bullying nature), but being away from them was a blessing in itself. Out here in the forest Rancourt couldn't torment her, or continually try to make her feel ugly. In the forest Rose could sing to her hearts content, without Tariq sulking and glaring at her from the corner of the room. The forest was freedom. And so Rose could hardly ignore the chance to let her voice be free in song as her beloved palomino and white mare trotted steadily along the winding dirt path.

“Think you own whatever land you land on
The earth is just a dead thing you can claim
But I know every rock and tree and creature
Has a life, has a spirit, has a name”.

It was a old song that a visiting nymph from the forests of Teumnach had taught her a long time ago. It seemed the perfect choice to be singing considering the natural surroundings of the forest, and Rose's own nymph heritage. Rose even had the power to make plants grow to her will, but she had a startling lack of control over it. It seemed affected by her moods, and the power was at its most dangerous when the princess was extremely angry.

“You think the only people who are people
Are the people who look and think like you
But if you walk the footsteps of a stranger
You'll learn things you never knew, you never knew”.

Aumia snorted softly, drawing her riders attention to the fallen tree that was sitting across the path. It didn't seem too large, so in one of Rose's most daring moments, rather than steer her mount around the tree, the princess gathered up her reins and changing her riding position slightly, leaning forward in the saddle. The draft horse snorted once more, this time in challenge, and raced forward into a gallop before the pair soared over the fallen tree, landing safely on the other side.

Rose laughed in triumph, smiling happily as the horse and rider raced down the winding dirt path for a few more meters before slowing to a trot as the path emptied out into a wide clearing, a creek trickling softly down the middle. It seemed like an excellent place to stop and take a rest for a while. The princess dismounted, and pulled Aumia's saddle from her back to give the mare a well deserved rest. She continued to sing still, singing to the palomino and white mare as much as she sang for her own enjoyment.

“Have you ever heard the wolf cry to the blue corn moon
Or asked the grinning bob cat why he grins?
Can you sing with all the voices of the mountain?
Can you paint with all the colours of the wind?
Can you paint with all the colours of the wind?”

Rose took a deep breath, deciding to stop singing for the time being as she led her beloved horse towards the creek for a drink. The water was cool and refreshing, and both horse and mistress drank deeply before the princess stood up beside her mare. Rose hummed softly as she twisted some of the golden mares mane hair into a thin braid.

Duncan Grimm wasn't as bad as Rose had originally led herself to believe. The poor princess had worked herself so far up with the belief that anyone that was offered for an arranged marriage was likely to be a horrible, cruel person. And yet the young prince from Muireach had convinced her otherwise. The two young royals had spent much of the evening talking, and Rose viewed him in a new light by the next morning. When Rose awoke in her chambers she couldn't help but smile and feel like she had gained a new friend, at very least. Duncan was quite sweet, and much of his honesty (and blushing) was quite endearing. The princess couldn't help but be fond of him a little.

It was right after breakfast that Rose came up with an idea. She was determined to spend some more time with Duncan, but she wanted it to be private... away from all nosy siblings and parents trying to control their lives. Ok, she didn't really think her father was that controlling... Rose thoroughly suspected that the 'arranged marriage' suggestion had been from the kings manservant, Godric, rather than from the kings own mind. Felix wasn't malicious by nature. And so it was then that Rose had the idea to invite the young prince to join her on a horse ride. They would be away from the palace and free to be themselves.

In the palace Rose was forever surrounded by handmaidens, servants and bodyguards... going riding with her beloved horse Aumia was one of the only things that she was allowed to do essentially on her own. Though, there was usually a guard or two following somewhere behind just to keep a watchful eye over her. Today was very different, her father had given her his word that Rose and Duncan would be left alone, even if guards were following. For the most part the two young royals would be alone. It was a chance worth taking. Even Godric's well meaning lectures of the morning couldn't wipe the smile from the young princess's features as she skipped down the halls to the guest wing of the palace.

Each of the Grimm family had been given rooms in the palace, though of course Princess Isolda and her husband Prince Percy would be sharing a room. Whistling a little tune softly, Rose slowed to a walk, moving passed the doors that led to the rooms of the visiting king and his daughter. Third door on the left, the princess reminded herself. The young woman paused for a moment, smoothing out her skirts – she wasn't wearing any of her usual courtly attire, but something more simple: a plain white blouse with a black vest over the top, and long deep ruby red 'gypsy' styled skirt. It gave her the elegance that was expected of a princess, but the large skirts allowed her to ride a horse astride like a man would, but kept her legs modestly covered. A princess showing too much skin could be seen as quite scandalous.

“Oops”, Rose muttered softly when she accident snagged her sleeve on her earring when she was fixing her hair, brushing stray hairs away from her face. Freeing herself, Rose laughed at herself for a moment before knocking on the door. “Duncan? Are you awake?” The princess bit on her lower lip lightly as she waited for an answer. Oh gods, she hoped she hadn't just disturbed him from his sleep...

MAGICAL POWERS;;
  • Siren Song - Due to her mothers Siren heritage, Rose managed to inherit the ability to lure others with her singing voice, although it is a diluted form of the true power. However, while it is generally considered a malevolent talent that could lure people to their deaths, in Rose's case it is simply something that makes her admirers adore her even more - and they simply cannot help it after they have heard her sing.
  • Plant Manipulation - Rose hasn't really explored this ability all that much as sometimes it goes out of her control - such as vines tangling around people and almost suffocating them.... so mostly Rose just uses it to make plants healthier.
  • Understands animals - Rose has the ability to hear and understand the thoughts of animals. This allows her to hold a conversation with her own animals, and also to communicate with the pets of other people. PERSONALITY;;
  • Intelligent – Much of her family just assumes that Rose is an idiot, so the princess is left alone to study whatever she deems fit in solitude. Rose has studied psychology to try and better understand what makes each member of her family 'tick'. She is also fluent in the Ancient Tongue as well as the Common Tongue. Rose has also used her time to learn about the customs of the neighboring kingdoms, and even of some of the foreign lands as well. Simply put, Rose has a thirst for knowledge.
  • Kind – Rose is a very sweet girl and incredibly kind...even to the point of trying to see the best in everyone. She is a particular favorite amongst children as she is always polite and happy to talk to them when most of her family would rather just ignore them. Beyond that Rose treats everyone with respect and never speaks a cruel word.
  • Hopeless Romantic – Rose dreams of marrying for love. Being raised as the daughter of King Felix, the poor girl has been fed the concept of "duty" daily, constantly reminded by the steward Godric that even her father went through an arranged marriage once. Rose desires to be married to someone who adores her for the person that she is, not for what she represents - princess, and a potential political alliance. Rose utterly detests the idea of an arranged marriage... even if it is the 'done thing'.
  • Crystal Fanatic – Rose is fascinated by crystals and gemstones. She has shelves in her room literally covered in gemstones ranging from small fragments to large geodes. Her entire family knows of her addiction to the beauty of crystals and gemstones that they fuel this fanatic by gifting her a new piece for her collection.
  • Daydreamer – Rose sometimes gets caught up in her own little world, daydreaming about various things... things like when she might fall in love, truly in love, or simply thinking about riding across a field of flowers with her hair flowing in the wind. Rose gets so caught up in her daydreams that it takes quite a few attempts to bring her attention back to reality.
  • Dancing - Rose never thought that she would love dancing, but the fact is: she does. Rose truly loves to dance. She was skeptical when her governess insisted that she learn not only to waltz, but also the intricate and precise art of ballet; yet, over time, Rose came to enjoy it greatly, and now she loves it.
  • Singing - This is perhaps an 'art' that is truest to Rose's heart. She loves to sing, and has a naturally gifted voice. Rose was of course taught by the finest tutors in regards to technique, but it was her eldest brother Tariq that taught her about adding 'heart and emotion' to her song. Rose sings for the pure enjoyment of it, not for anyone else.
FLAWS;;
  • Over-Emotional – Rose is prone to mood swings... not in the sense that one moment she will be happy and then angry the next, no... Rose is more of the type to have her emotions in extreme levels. When this princess is happy it will seem like there is sunshine, rainbows and daisies everywhere... but when she is angry, it will seem as if a storm had rolled in and you are caught right in the middle of it. Also, when Rose starts crying, sometimes it seems like there will be no stopping her.
  • Skeptic – Half of the problem of having a family that thinks you are stupid is that they also think you are gullible, and the amount of wild stories and lies that Rose's brothers have told her over the years and caused Rose to develop a large case of skepticism to the point that the princess does not believe everything she is told at face value... it takes a lot of work to get her to believe even the truth.
  • Arachnophobia – Rose is terribly afraid of spiders, even the smallest ones will have her quivering but large ones like tarantula's and huntsman's will make her scream from fright. While the princess can cope if a spider is somewhere in the castle, if there is one in her private chambers then the servants are sent into a mad panic to eradicate the intruder before Rose finds out and starts screaming her head off.
  • Can't Swim – Ever since Rose nearly drowned in the lake when she was five years old, the princess has never learned to swim and is somewhat terrified of going into water that is deeper than her head – in other words, she prefers being able to touch the bottom with her feet. Rose does love the water, but the prospect of drowning steers her clear of learning to swim altogether.
  • Finiky – Not in the sense that she prefers particular types of food, but more in the sense of being slightly OCD. Rose is very particular with the way her things are organized, and everything "has it's place". The princess does not mind things being borrowed or handled, so long as they are put back exactly where they belong.
SECRETS;;
  • Flee the scene – Has contemplated running away in order to escape being forced into an arranged marriage.
  • Choice of Marriage prospects – If she has to be forced into marrying a prince, she would rather choose which one herself.
  • Marry for Love - ultimately, Rose wishes to marry for love. It does not matter if it is one that just happens naturally, or via an arrangement, Rose still desires to marry someone that loves her for just being 'her'; not for the wealth, respect, land and power that she might be able to potentially be able give her would-be suitor.
  • No more roses! – She's sick of receiving roses from every damn visiting dignitary that she is presented to. Yes, Rose is her name... but that does not mean that everyone has to give her a rose with the same repeated line of 'rose for a rose'... it's been done to death!
GOALS;;
  • Fall in love, avoid an arranged marriage.
  • TRY to get her brother Tariq to stop hating her because of her singing voice even though she does encourage him to continue with his attempts at being a bard.
  • See the world beyond Gaothaidh, places that her books have only ever mentioned.
  • Make new friends

HISTORY;;
Rose's family is.... complicated. Honestly, the bunch of them put together would make a psychologists head spin and think that they should all be committed. However, compared to some of the 'odd' characters amongst her family, Rose is made to look rather sane... mainly because she is. Growing up as the youngest daughter of the royal brood meant that she suffered the usual pranks due to having older brothers, and even some of the 'diva' attitude from some of her older sisters. Despite the shortcomings of her family, Rose never developed any hatred towards them.... though she didn't understand Rancourt's high-and-mighty attitude much of the time.

Being young seemed to instantly make people believe that the princess was gullible, and Rose's older brothers took advantage of that fact quite often when she was a child. Sometimes it was fairly innocent, like making her think there was a dragon in the courtyard, or a fly on her nose.... but when Rose was five it was these wild stories that would put her in severe danger that would nearly claim her life. It was one of Rancourt's outrageous stories about a kelpie living in the lake that caused five year old Rose to try and see it for herself by leaning too far over the side of the row boat that they were in and fall into the water. The fact that Rose could not swim meant that she almost drowned, and ever since that incident their parents never allowed them to be in the same room together without at least the king or queen present.

At age seven Rose's family discovered her fear of spiders, thanks to a practical joke gone wrong. Two of her older brothers put a spider on her head, but when Rose brushed it off and saw it for herself the princess broke down into tears and started screaming her lungs out that it became a family effort in the years to come to make sure that Rose never saw one again.... granted it was a wasted effort considering the size of the palace, so the task became localized to her private chambers.

During the years after her tenth birthday, Rose began to hear the whispered comments from the castle staff, speculating about whether King Felix and Queen Raven actually care for any of their children, particularly since they don't seem to possess any affections towards each other. But despite the common belief that Rose was merely pawns in the grand schemes of their parents, the princess is genuinely cared for by her parents... though their attitudes towards other people confuse her greatly. This confusion led Rose towards studying the mind, getting her hands on any book about psychology that she could find... finding that her sister Annisse and even Eilonwy Lysanar were valuable in such an endeavor, thanks to both of them having extensive knowledge of books thanks to their past lives at Ioralta Academy, which has since been closed down.

One of her most treasured possessions came into her life when Rose was fourteen, and that was her beloved horse Aumia. A golden palomino-paint, the horse was a mere filly when King Felix presented Rose with the creature as a gift for her birthday. Aumia had been bought from one of the best breeders in the kingdom and was of Gypsy Cob breeding, a draft breed but Aumia had been selected because of her dainty tendencies. The princess spent every moment she could spare with the filly, getting it to trust her without fault. When Aumia was old enough she was broken to saddle and bridle so that the princess may ride her, though not alone at first in case the training was still too fresh. Little did she know that the gift of Aumia was her fathers silent apology for her future filled with 'royal duty'.

During the year that Rose turned sixteen the resident rat-catching cat, Isabella, had her kittens and died shortly afterwards. There was one kitten, a runty tortoiseshell-and-white female, that was tiny compared to the others and the kitchen staff were not prepared to take care of this runt when her brothers and sisters were to be hand reared. Rose took it upon herself to raise the kitten, naming her Gypsy, and the grew into a magnificent example of feline breeding with a long fluffy coat that was strikingly marked with her bright pattern. Gypsy became a royal pet with a life of luxury and spends much of her day basking in the sunlight on the window sill in Rose's private chambers.

Ever since Rose came of age, she has been dreading facing what she terms 'the marriage market'... in some cultures it simply means that a girl is presented to society and eligible bachelors make their offers to her father, but it is ultimately the daughter than makes the final decision. Sadly, this is not the case for daughters of royalty much of the time... though some girls of noble families have the same restrictions. The marriage market for Rose is basically what she fears... that she might be married off to the highest bidder.

However, it was neither of her parents that constantly make her feel miserable with reminders of the prospect – it was always the steward, Godric. Rose HATES Godric with a passion.... sometimes it seems like the man thrives upon making her miserable, though despite his efforts Rose remains optimistic that she might be fortunate to marry for love in the end. The princess is just fed up with hearing about her 'royal duty' multiple times a day.
